The canal city of Amsterdam is arguably one of the most exciting nightlife centers in the world as it boasts of a vibrant dance club scene where the sounds of techno, trance and house music reverberate loudly. Now this exciting city which is also well known throughout the world for its relaxed stance on the sale of marijuana and prostitution is getting ready to host one of the most exciting dance festivals in Europe over four days and nights towards the end of October. This dance festival which is known as the Amsterdam Dance Event is celebrating its thirteenth anniversary this year and will be held be held from Wednesday the 22nd of October till Saturday the 25th of October in nightclubs, DJ cafes, record stores, lounges and art galleries located in the city of Amsterdam. After the festival ends on Saturday, the event will be followed by a spate of after-festival parties on the next day.

The festival which also includes a business music industry conference will feature more than 700 Disc jockeys from all over the world who will be spinning their tunes at more than forty of Amsterdam’s best venues. This dance extravaganza has been known to attract a clubbing audience of more than 72000 people in previous years and this year the organizers of the event, Buma Cultu which is the foundation dedicated to the support and promotion of Dutch music copyrights anticipate even larger crowds to attend the festival.

Who is playing at this year’s festival?

All the big names and acts from world of electronic music have confirmed their participation at the 2008 Amsterdam Dance Event. This year’s line up includes superstars like Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Henrik Schwarz, Dennis Ferrer, Erick Morillo, Francois K, Richi Hawtin, Kabale Und Liebe and Daze Maxim amongst others.

Where will they be playing?

In addition to playing at Amsterdam’s top nightclubs these DJ’s will be performing and showcasing their skills at various concert venues, record stores and art galleries etc located in the heart of the city. These locations include: Akhnaton, Bitterzoet, Club 8, Club NL, Escape, Flex Bar, Hotel Arena Tonight, Jimmy Woo, The Mansion, Melkweg, Odeon, OT301, Panama, Paradiso, Powerzone, Rain, The Sand, Studio K, Sugar Factory, Studio 80, Winston Kingdom and many others. How do I get tickets for the festival?

There are no all encompassing tickets being sold for the festival, rather you have to buy an individual ticket for each participating club’s event. However if you are a music industry professional and if you happen to be attending the music industry conference which is being organized along with the festival, then you can buy a conference ticket which will give you access to both the festival and the networking conference for industry professionals. Also in order to gain admittance to Amsterdam’s dance clubs for this invigorating dance festival you have to be over eighteen years old.

Yet another allied event of the Amsterdam Dance Event is the d3: DJ and producer seminar. This event which is geared towards young producers and DJ talent and which will feature clinics, workshops, presentations has been scheduled for Saturday the 25th of October. Tickets for this event are however available at the ticketservice website and are priced at € 15 per head.
