Five Things To See In Regina
This Queen City is the capital of Saskatchewan, and home to some experiences that shouldn’t be missed. Regina is also home to the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the defending champions of the CFL (Canadian Football League). Although the game is slightly different than American football, it is intensely popular in Canada and, if you enjoy football at all, it is well worth checking out a CFL game if you are visiting a city that plays host to one of its teams. Here is a list of five things to see and do during your stay in Regina.
This is a museum devoted to natural history. Although it is only one of several museums within the city, it has stayed one of the most popular for many years now. It features many different exhibits, including a First Nation’s center which highlights the past and development of Saskatchewan’s Native peoples. They also offer several different day camps in the summer months.
The Saskatchewan Legislature
Being the capital city of the province, the legislature features very prominently in the image of the city. Daily tours are available and there is also a gift shop with great Regina and Saskatchewan souvenirs to take home.
The RCMP Training Depot and Museum
One of the most enduring images that people have of Canada as an entire country is that of the RCMP or Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The image of the Mountie in his traditional red uniform is one that is very strongly associated with Canada. The police force is trained right in Regina, and the facility is open for tours year round. There is also a museum on the site that highlights the colorful history of the national police force.
Mosaic Stadium
As mentioned previously, Regina is the home city of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the defending Grey Cup champions. Although Regina is the smallest city in the league, the entire country has long acknowledged Saskatchewan as having the best fan base out of any team and the experience of going to a Rider game is something that everyone visiting the province should have at least once. Tickets are reasonably priced and the Stadium is easily accessible, just minutes off of the city’s main drag.
Wascana Center
This is a 9-km square park that is built around the prominent Wascana Lake in Regina. The park is one of the most popular spots in the city for tourists to just come and relax and enjoy the natural prairie beauty. Many say that this type of serenity can’t be found anywhere else.
All in all, the city of Regina, in Saskatchewan, is one that many a tourist will enjoy and hope to come back to again. With all that it has to offer, this small city certainly packs a punch when it comes to tourism.
