Stanley Park and North Shore MountainsVancouver is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Canada. With its stunning harbour, great shopping and beautiful climate, it should come as no surprise that this city is one of the country’s most popular.  More and more travellers will be flocking to Vancouver within the next few years as well as time grows closer to the 2010 winter Olympics, which will be held in and around the city. However, besides coming to the city to see a game, there are many other reasons to visit the city. Here are five of the must see sites in Vancouver.

1. Stanley Park

This Park is the sixteenth largest city owned park in the world and the third largest in North America. It is a treasure trove of nature, history and culture of the indigenous peoples of the region. There are loads of historical sites to visit or you can just enjoy a stroll along the beautiful seawall while listening to the water dance below.

2. Granville Island

Colorful Granville Island

Granville Island is one of the most exciting and vibrant cultural hubs of the city. A market filled with the freshest and best offerings from local food merchants is one highlight, while the rest of the island is filled with theatres, artisans and artists shops, and the workshops of craftsmen of all types. Almost everything you can find on Granville Island is unique and special, and it is well worth exploring.

3. The Marina

Near Granville Island is the stunning Marina which is home to many of Vancouver’s pleasure crafts as well as other boats and ships. The views are stunning, but if you’re looking for something more hands on, there are many boat tours and rides available, or you can take a ride on the Seabus over to the West End.

4. The West End

This is the single most densely populated area in North America. Residential apartments and condominiums tower over some of the best shops in the city. The streets are filled with nothing but the best in shopping, cafes and restaurants.

5. Chinatown

Vancouver has the honor of being home to the second largest Chinatown in North America. Located near the downtown core, Chinatown is easily accessible and boasts some of the greatest food in the city. You can try some delicious Dim Sum, browse the open air markets or just enjoy the sites.

Any or all of these destinations will be of immense interest to any visitor to the Vancouver region. They are also all large and diverse attractions that are well worth visiting again, even if you might have been there before.
