Food Gift BasketThe yuletide season is fast approaching, and just in case you wanted to plan ahead on what to give your closest friends, family members and workmates. Just as Santa is drafting his list now, so should you. You are half-way done on who gets what, when, out of the blue, you run out of ideas! Suddenly it feels like pulling your teeth coming up with extra-special tokens for the holidays.

With the yuletide season around the corner, it’s never too early to create your gift list! How does one figure out what to give to each family member, friend, neighbour and workmate? If you’re not good at remembering who’s been naughty or nice this year, opt for some gifts that are sure to win anyone’s heart (or appetite)!

So what would be the best and fail-safe gift for the season? Food baskets! Who can say no to them? The mere sight of it on one’s doorstep would surely brighten up a cold winter’s day! Nowadays, it’s easy to go online and buy from the best available gift delivery service. However, it is the season of gift-giving so why not whip up a food basket yourself? Here are some fun themes you can play around with.

1. Go organic—assemble a fine array of whole-wheat cookies, jasmine tea packets, oaten biscuits, dried fruit samplers and just a bit of variety, include a handmade journal inside!
2. Chocoholics unite—pamper your friend’s sweet tooth with a bag of goodies made from the best cacao beans in the world such as those found in Venezuela, Madagascar, and Italy. But if the price tag is just too crazy, grab them in all shapes and sizes from a local candy store!
3. Muffin-manic treats—if you take pride in your baking skills, pack in some freshly-made muffins wrapped in a fancy table napkins. The smell alone will bring a smile to your neighbour’s face when you hand it over.
4. Fancy wines anyone—wine and fancy cheese is a formal token for someone with a taste for the fancier things in life. Open some bubbly and let the fun begin!
5. Pasta-pretty–encourage a DIY pasta dinner in a basket! Pick out a lovely recipe and gather the ingredients from the supermarket. Make it a rather tough one to add a bit of challenge in the kitchen.

I completely agree! I find location-themed baskets to be really cool - like “A night in Italy” gift baskets or something like that.

Thank you for some great ideas … and also the sense to tell people to assemble these baskets themselves! The price of third-party gift baskets can be absolutely ridiculous, oftentimes for goods that you can buy the equivalent of in a supermarket for a couple of dollars. Like the organic idea best - and you could really branch out from food with that one, there is a whole range of organic clothing and household items to be found now. A bathroom basket could be another awesome idea, or a car lover’s basket, or a barbeque basket…
