Cross Country Skiing in North America
Cross country skiing is an activity that is seeing a large resurgence due to our society’s increasing focus on fitness and health. Even though downhill skiing - due to its speed and potential dangers - may not be for everyone, cross country skiing is approachable to people of all ages and skill levels and is a great way to stay fit and active in the wintertime. As the sport regains popularity, many resorts are growing in size that have access to fantastic cross country skiing.

Of course, there are lots of back country cross country skiing that goes on, as well as cross country skiing that keeps its participants in the wilderness for the duration of their journey. However, there are many great resorts and resort towns that have great cross country skiing, but also have fantastic luxury resorts to come home to in the evening. We have a few picks here to get you started.

Mont-Sainte-Anne – This is a cross country ski center in Quebec and has over 130 miles of cross country ski routes. They have a long season and, under normal circumstances, they are open from November to April. They also have trails of all varieties and difficulty levels in order to suit everyone’s personal preference. They have large, well groomed trails that are suitable for the beginner as well as some great winding trails for the more experienced skier. For somewhere warm to call home in the evenings, try the Chateau Mont-Sainte Anne for a world class experience.

Silver Star Mountain Resort – Located in British Columbia, this resort is among the most popular ski destinations in the world. The World Cup was held there during 2005, and all who attended were adamant in this being one of the best cross country destinations on the planet. There is downhill skiing available as well for those who like that instead, but cross country is where this resort shines. Stay at the Silver Star Club Resort to get the most out of your holiday with incredible accommodations and exceptional service. It’s right in the heart of the village and is only 22 km away from Vernon, one of the prettiest towns in B.C. at any time of year. This hotel features fine Italian dining in addition to traditional fireside ski restaurants; ensuring that your taste buds will be as happy as the skiers during your stay at Silver Star.
